Support from other trade unions

We have received support from the other recognised trade unions for our dispute and our industrial action. GMB, UNISON and UNITE have members who are mainly in other pension schemes, rather than USS, but have sent us messages of support, including this:

“Whilst we sympathise with your lawful dispute and support your actions as far as we can, members of UNITE, UNISON and GMB are not protected by the UCU strike ballot and therefore have to cross a lawful picket line on strike days to come into work because if we didn’t we would be taking unlawful action and leaving ourselves open to sanctions from the University.”

UCU recognise and appreciate the position of the other trade unions. We are asking them to show their support in whatever way that they can. Most importantly, we ask that they do not carry out work that would normally be carried out by someone who is on strike, during the days of action.
